Consequently, if VGA is working fine, that indicates that the system is providing a display output signal to the adapter, so if HDMI is the only problem, that suggests a problem with the adapter. I suppose it could be a compatibility issue between that specific adapter and that specific PC, but I doubt it. So, you don't think it is a problem of the laptop, rather it is of the adapter. And also, that it is unlikely to be a compatibility issue. This means that I just have to return the adapter and try another one. Windows 10 does not recognize the device. The error can be caused by hardware issues. This may work like a charm on solving the problem. Try the device on a different USB port. This will figure out if problem is caused by a broken port. Connect the device to another PC. This will figure out if the external device has a problem. After finishing the uninstallation, restart your PC then Windows will reinstall the device automatically. Select Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer. Then Windows will update the driver software for the device. Repeat the steps above to update driver software for every Generic USB Hub until the problem is resolved. I connected that to my USB-C port. Then connected my monitor to the box using an HDMI cable. The monitor is an HP Pavilion 27xw.
