Remember Me? Results 1 to 11 of Thread Tools Show Printable Version. How do I remove the factory rear sight without messing anything up? It looks like you need to pry it out, but I would think that will scratch either the barrel or the sight and may bend the sight. Thanks, John. It's so easy that you won't believe it. First, get either a brass drift punch or a wooden dowel and a hammer. Remember, barrel pointing away from you and drift to the right. What ever you do, don't pry it out. That will make a monu-freeken-mental mess of the job. I knew there had to be a non-destructive way to remove it. You will most likely want to put in a blank to fill the empty dovetail. Marble sells them for about 5 bucks, blued and ready to install using the same procedure except in reverse. C A Plater, Thanks for the suggestion I fount them at Midway. The part is called a "Sight Slot Blank". When you remove the rear sight, you will first want to lift up the rear end and remove the elevator slide. Then place some paper under the rear sight where it contacts the barrel so when you drift it out, it won't drag on the barrel and mark the blue. I learnt this one the hard way when I fitted a Foolproof to my first new rifle, a 94 44Mag.

Remember Me? What's New? Forum Gunboards. Results 1 to 10 of Thread: Is this an original Winchester m94 rear sight? Join Date Feb Posts Is this an original Winchester m94 rear sight? My rifle is a 70s era model 94 and this rear sight has been the single thing i hate about it. At the lowest setting as it usually gets used it barely holds onto the sight and I'm afraid of it just falling off forever. Theres no groove in the barrel or anything keeping it on, just spring tension from the sight itself. I've looked up pictures and see wholly different sights. Was this a replacement? The notch itself doesn't look like the standard sight I've seen. But its just a held on by screws, might be a replacement also. I would like to replace them with a proper ladder sight, I wouldn't feel bad replacing a replacement though. This is the rear sight on a Model 94 Winchester made in Atamis-is your rifle Winchester marked or Sears? Are you saying that the rear sight is loose in it's dovetail in the barrel? That rear sight looks pretty generic to me. Sponsored Links Remove Advertisements. Originally Posted by Montana Bearbait. Originally Posted by Highrider. I would say the problem started with the front sight being replaced with a taller bead than original. The dovetail on the Win 94's is a little smaller than the standard ones and require some fitting. So then a different rear sight setting was needed and the original short elevator was tossed and a generic one substituted. In my shop I would point this out to the customer and recommend a new original front ramp and original stock height bead. You have the right front sight hood, which is a good thing, and it will slip onto the new ramp. The rear sight just needs the elevator shown in the above post. Put it in as shown and good to go. Or however you do it, that will be the end of problem and get the gun back on target. BTW, that little notched thingie you call the ramp is properly termed an 'elevator'. The slanted thing on the front of the barrel is termed a 'ramp' and the little insert that is dovetailed into the ramp is the 'bead' and the sliding cover is the 'front sight hood'. You can go online and get schematics and part numbers and a list of part suppliers. Good luck. Good information, and thanks for the terminology correction!
