STL TonalityThat plugin was a plugin designed for vintage inspired tones so it was only a matter of time before STL did something for the modern hi-gain lovers. When I heard they had designed just such a plugin, I immediately referenced the quality of the hi-gain tones in their Kemper packs. The man knows his tone and he has collaborated on a suite with STL Tones that features a ton of gear. The plugin looks badass, it looks awesome in every way. Otherwise, you will only be changing the settings for one of the two amps and not get the full picture of the plugin. Most of the presets involve two amps so be aware when getting used to this plugin. Go amp by amp, component by component to really get to know every piece of gear before blending stuff together. Go to fast, you might miss something cool. It gives you a true hi-gain Bogner tone and for me, the first hi-gain Bogner amp sim I have really meshed with. The values across all of the knobs make it easy to get something top shelf without even needing much EQ. Amp 3 gives you a mix of vintage and modern tones from mid to hi-gain. Simply add the tube screamer to tighten things up. AMP 4 — Diezel amps sound like Diezel amps, they have their own very distinct set of characteristics. Tonality: Putney includes the rhythm and the lead channel of a Diezel VH4 and it is a hell of a lot of fun to shred on. I spent a bit of time with a VH4 over a recording session years ago and I really enjoyed the amp. This amp sim cuts like a knife for thrash, punk, hard rock, death metal and many other applications. I felt the inclusion of such a vintage era bass amp with four hi-gain beasts was a little odd but it works out. Plus by that time, you have already removed a lot of power and body from the tone. When I bypassed the matched cab, it helped the situation but not overly. CABS — The internal impulse section is simple and solid. Each cab also works nicely with any amp it seems so it makes for even more tone options in the plugin. The cab section allows you to also use it as a loader for your own impulse collection. I like this feature with any amp sim but it needs to be done right to be effective. This is the case with many built in loaders it seems and for me, to be useful, they need to have just a little more flexibility. The tube screamer is simply awesome in every way, it reminds me of a hardware pedal called the Kartakou Warmer. The delay pedal is exceedingly high detailed, versatile and it sounds beautiful on leads. The reverb pedal is another very nice included feature. You can get worlds of different reverbs with all different sizes, lengths and so on while also getting the option to put it before or after the rig. There are no real clean tones in Tonality: Putney so if I can be picky, it would have been better to include another pedal that would have more applications related to the tones from the amps. The last included component that I will touch on here is the included EQ.

STL Tones product page. The GUI looks and functions great! However, the layouts across all the Tonality plugins are all similar so if you have used the first few, you will be fine. The GUI offers many ways to find the tones you want if you spend time creating a good workflow. I like this feature but I will be honest by saying I will rarely utilize it as I just prefer to stay with the single amp set up in this plugin. Use it as a boost for the heavier amps or add it to the clean amp with the gain up for some extra dirt. Moving to the Revenant preamp pedal, it makes my mouth water when I think about running the hardware version with a Mesa Boogie Simulclass 2:Ninety and a big ass Mesa Oversized cabinet. I have the same dream when I think about hooking the hardware up to a Marshall power amp and a couple B cabs. I imagine those rigs rattling my teeth when I use the plugin version. To use the Revenant you need to engage the power amp located to the right of the Revenant. The poweramp and tube types depend on the amp and tube type that you have selected in the amp section. As mentioned, you can use the green OD pedal in front of the Revenant preamp like you would boost any other amp but if you use the green pedal, I would make sure the focus is off. The shape control adds a really nice shot in the mids that seems to respond differently according to where the lo and hi mid controls are set. The KT88 tube option however when selected enables users to create something completely unique. I would really have loved the green channel for this one but the red channel in this case sings a convincing version of the sweet unbridled devastation you can find in its durable hardware counterpart! The final amp is another first. This amp at least partially satisfies my need for a plugin version of the legendary British amp. This was the first amp I reached for and I went straight to work trying for the best twangy country tones I could find. The cabinet section across the various Tonality plugins can feel a little bit fixed in place. The quality of the matched cabs in this plugin is better than the other versions of the plugin. The section also includes a very simple impulse response loader that can be used to load whatever you need. You can bypass the cabinet section but with really any suite style plugin in doing so, you change the signal chain. Always know how bypassing components affects the signal chain. This plugin can chug the best chugs that ever chugged, it can be used to create death metal, cold and desolate black metal, djent and just about any high gain tone one could ever need. If a second channel from the first two amps was available, the middle ground would be better represented. This suite is definitely more for the shredders and high gain players. Here we take a look at the third installment in the STL Tonality series. This one done in cooperation with UK shredder Andy James. Like this: Like Loading Post to Cancel.
STL Tonality – Will Putney
Another cool feature here that is unlike the Benson Tonality is the dual amp feature that you will see at the bottom of the pictures below. This feature is NOT showcased in our first couple videos because I wanted to showcase the individual amps before blending. Plus a stomp box section with his favorite overdrive, delay, and reverb expanded with even more functions. We do this to showcase the true tones of the plugin rather than setting unrealistic examples. Stay tuned to our YouTube!! This plugin looks and sounds absolutely incredible to say the very least. You are all going to get a really good look at this plugin from our end this weekend but I can tell you, if you like any kind of distorted tones, buy this plugin immediately. This one is a fire breathing dragon in comparison and I am quite certain no one will be having to force any of these amps out of their comfort zone to do metal like we were seeing with Tonality:Benson. It djents kids, it really does djent so polish up your ERGs and hammer down! Skip to content Search for: Search Close. Close Menu. Here is our first look at it. New Release Alert – STL Tonality: Will Putney!
By ZoOctober 17, in Deals. Hi guyzhere's my take on a pure beauty when it comes to amp sim : Tonality suitesthis one being the Will Putney one!! Wow, Zo, in short time you will become the most productive guitar sim amps reviewer. Ha, so will I be selfish hoping painter will be very careful about details giving you more time for reviews. Like it and little surprised in good way. When I grabbed it to test I had kind of kingdom of fizzyness in sounds at almost every preset for distorted tones which I couldn't stand so skipped this thing. But cannot retest it anyway to try identify problem as trial is one time only. But anyway I have so many things to get instant nice distorted tones like choptones rigs for TH-U so plenty of option already at hand. Yep presetsi never go for themfor test i check how fast i can make a tone I noticed it reacts well to eqs. Their ampeg sounds exellent alsopretty surprised how much caracter it has!! I really think this suite is dope. You know I love you Zo, is just it was kind of a let down seeing you using a virtual midi bass instrument for the bass review. Say the truth and tell me this Modo bass can generate some great tone It's not that it sounds bad, but it's so obvious it sounds midi nothing wrong with thatjust wondering if the guys who recorded guitars for you could record some real electric bass guitar.
