Suspect detained in shooting of Imperial Beach official in southern MexicoDoes anyone have any information on today's shooting? Wondering if it was cartel related, a robbery, revenge, tourist involved, love gone bad, government, suicide by police? So far just heresay and lots of "someone said" reports. I prefer that we wait for the official report and news yes I know the "news" doesn't always tell the truth before we start chatting and dramatizing it? There is a news article about it in Spanish if you search Zihuatanejo news on google. No, but I can detail the several of them in Minneapolis over that last couple of days for you. But they will slow down over the next couple of days with the below Zero temperature highs. The shootings in Minneapolis don't really concern me. I really only care about shootings in my hometown and places I travel. I am extremely interested in cartel related violence, it intrigues me. Might be a result of all the cartel related shows now available on Netflix. To Wutnik, there really isn't much info in the news articles online. Thought maybe someone on hear might have heard something. I didn't speculate about anything- I did not comment on the incident, nor can I since I was not there. And what "vested interest"? I have no "vested interest" in anything at all- anywhere. Concern re: recent shooting of tourists in Ixtapa - Ixtapa Forum
We are going to Ixtapa in 3 weeks and although we realize there is crime everywhere, we cannot help but be rather concerned about this recent incident. We like to walk all over and hope it is safe to do so. Does anyone have any insights or more information about this incident where the Quebec couple were robbed and shot? Strong action must be taken to stop this or the tourist industry already weakened will dry up entirely. I will reiterate that in 25 years of Mexican travel up to 3 months a trip I personally have never been a victim of a crime nor observed a single act of Violence. MaxCalifornia - the drug violence is not targeted at tourists but the latest robbery and shooting incident definitely was. It is that fact that is disturbing many visitors. This year some of our Mexicano friends discussed the kidnappings, etc. These were not drug people, just people. We ate breakfast most days at Chili Beans and watched the Federales with masks, guns, etc. We, too, walked the streets to restaurants, some like Solieado's sp were a bit dark, but we didn't worry. Now with this daylight attack of a large varied group of people, I wonder. I agree, this was a tourist attack not a drug attack. Tell me what a drug dealer looks like, then I will avoid being close to one. My husband is 70 and I am 69, I don't think we look like money launderers, or users, but we certainly look like tourists. Does it matter if you're Canadian or U. If the tourist trade drops, I feel these assaults will increase. It's just "do the math". Fewer tourists, more job loss, more crime. They have families, values, work hard and they are the ones whom suffer the most. Tourists can always find some other place to visit, but the Mexican people of this area cannot.
Today's shooting - Zihuatanejo Forum
Several years ago I was rather shocked to pass by a new shiny black suburban with big wheels. One of the passengers wore a heavily pockmarked face. I continued on with friends toward a palapa restaurant on Playa Ropa. I did not appreciate the staredown one of the group gave my friend Eduardo So I walked right up to the two goons standing by the Suburban. I complimented what appeared to be the head goon about the gold? He gave me a cold smile. I joined friends at a table. Eduardo told me Zihuatanejo was sort of a neutral ground for several gangs. I guess the newspaper crossed the line. I have listened to ex-pats rant about Zihuatanejo being a narco-free zone. Oh how little they know. They should put more enthusiasm into how to survive living with narcos. I live in tierra caliente and there are strict do's and dont's, like not hanging out in macho bars late at night. Parlores de billares, etc. I hope the no-fire-zone endures. It is not BS, honey, son pinones, aka pine nuts, made exclusiverly for you by a real Chiva Body guards were promised in the last regime. What makes the newspaper co. Nope the government is in cahoots with the criminals. Hard to believe an area with a Marina and Army base could let the punks with guns kill shopkeepers, their employees and innocents. Sounds like many neighborhoods in the US where gang violence and crime rate is high. Children forbidden to play outside and away from windows. Don't blame these people for not risking their lives until it is suppressed. Comments are moderated, refer to policy for more information.
