Review: Moto G5 Plus: An inexpensive Android phone with all the right features

A generic system image GSI is a system image with adjusted configurations for Android devices. What is this? For many, the stock version of Android is often considered the epitome of what the operating system should look and feel like by default. Other things found in Android Q include a completely revamped permissions UI, new developer settings, some sort of desktop mode, a built-in screen recorder buried in the developer settings, new accessibility features, and more. One significant drawback to using a custom ROM for the stock experience is that you must rely on the developer of the ROM to keep your system up to date. Depending on the developer and the device, you could potentially see delayed updates or even lack of future support. However, any big-time developer is excellent about keeping on top of their ROM and making sure you stay current at all times. Android Android 9 Pie Roms. Android Oreo Roms. Best Android Tricks. Motorola + Android One

Lenovo-owned Motorola covers all the bases with its phone lineup, giving consumers choices at every price point. Even with a two-year-old processor, the Moto Z3 still churns out good performance. That means you can attach everything from a battery pack to a projector to the back of the Moto Z3. Check pricing. The Motorola Moto Z4 is the newest Z-series smartphone, but Motorola curiously equipped the phone with mid-range specs. Wait, what? The main rub is Moto Mod support. However, the One Zoom leaves us with a few questions. The One Zoom features the same Snapdragon found in the Moto Z4, which left us wanting in the performance department. Also a question is the software. Otherwise, the One Zoom looks to be a solid mid-range smartphone. The Moto Z3 Play flirts with the high-end, thanks to its use of glass for the front and back. The Moto G7 features a 6. The 3,mAh battery seems small on paper, but delivered great endurance in our review. Motorola made some sacrifices to get the Moto G7 to its price tag, one of which is the exclusion of NFC. Otherwise, we have a hard time not recommending the Moto G7 to anyone looking for a good and affordable smartphone. It has the same basic design as the last phone family in the series, the Moto G7but the Moto G8 Plus has some interesting additions, including to its camera setup. The Moto G8 Plus features a 6. The 4,mAh battery inside the Moto G8 Plus is a big step up from the 3,mAh battery on the G7, so this phone should last all day on a single charge. The phone has a 25MP front-facing camera, which is great for taking selfies. The phone does come with Android 9 Pie out of the box, instead of Android It supports 45W charging for its 4,mAh battery. Overall, the Motorola One Hyper has some very interesting features for a mid-range smartphone. One of the newer members of the expanding Motorola One range, the Motorola One Action is a quirky smartphone. Motorola tilted the lens by 90 degrees, meaning you can shoot landscape video while holding the phone in portrait mode. In his reviewour Oliver Cragg actually liked the convenience of recording wide-angle video without flipping the phone sideways to do so. The best Motorola phones you can get

And Google's Pixel 2 lineup probably offers the best experience for Android phones. But if you want to talk about the best Android device maker overall, it's hard to argue with what the Lenovo-owned Motorola brand has been doing these days. We see a lot of phones from a lot of brands at Tom's Guide, and we rarely see the top-to-bottom consistency found in Moto's phone lineup. Regardless of the kind of phone on your shopping list — from budget models to more full-featured devices — Moto has something to offer that merits your consideration. With a Moto press event coming Thursday Aug. Moto's greatest strength is the attention it lavishes on midrange and budget models. You expect some tradeoffs when you buy a lower-cost phone — a slower processor here, a more utilitarian design there — but some phone makers tend to view a lower price as an excuse to mail it in. Take Samsung's Galaxy J7 Prime. As a phone, it's But you won't find many flourishes like dual rear cameras, an aspect ratio or peppy performance. When Tom's Guide reviewed the phone, the most exciting feature to us was the price tag. And that seems to be the way a lot of big-name phone makers approach their lower-cost models. The Moto G6 stands out, however, by putting premium features onto a phone that's priced in the same ballpark as models like the J7 Prime. You want a phone with an extended display like the top flagships feature these days? The G6 has that aspect ratio. You'll find dual cameras on the back of the phone, too, even if they don't quite deliver the performance you'll get from a more expensive handset. You still can expect some compromises, after all. And though Moto has a lower-end Snapdragon processor, it still outperforms phones in its price range. Expect some concessions here on the display and camera, but this is still a serviceable phone with a bargain-basement price that runs Android Oreo and includes a fingerprint sensor. Motorola employs a light hand when it comes to putting Android on its phones. My colleague Adam Ismail, who handles a lot of our smartphone reviews, has observed that you'd be hard-pressed to tell the difference between stock Android and Moto's implementation of it. The changes Moto does make tend to make the experience better, such as one-button navigation and gesture controls. Moto could be more consistent in keeping its phones updated to the latest version of Android — though, really, you almost have to opt for a Pixel for that kind of regularity — but this is a phone maker that works with Android, not against it. Google used to require you to use one of its internally developed smartphones if you wanted to subscribe to the sanely priced Project Fi wireless service. The Moto G6 has since joined the mix, too. Both of those phones offer you a cheaper way of enjoying Project Fi and its customer-friendly features, such as credit for data you don't use and the ability to use your plan overseas. Think smartphones are getting a little bland and indistinguishable? Moto's Z lineup enlivens things with a modular design that lets you augment your phone's powers with easy-to-add accessories. Not every Moto Mod is a winner, but portable power packs from Incipio and Moto and an attachable speaker from JBL bring something new to the table. Best of all is how Motorola approaches its modular phones. For starters, the company has kept the same design over multiple generations of the Moto Z phone. That makes Moto Mods compatible with any phone in the lineup. That the Z2 Force came out last year hints at one of the weaknesses in Moto's otherwise stellar lineup: it really doesn't have a phone that can go toe-to-toe with top Android devices like the Galaxy S9, the LG G7 ThinQ or the OnePlus 6. Those phones have the latest Qualcomm processor, the Snapdragon

As well as being bloatware-free, a key advantage of stock Android phones is that they are among the first to receive operating system updates. The latest Pixel devices add a 2x telephoto lens to the mix, and you can still expect best-in-class performance from the main camera. A new Astrophotography mode also lets you capture pictures of the stars, which is a neat feature that widens the camera software gap even further. Apart from the camera, both Pixel 4 phones now come with Soli radar technology. But the real upgrade is the screen. The Nokia 9 PureView sports plenty of power under the hood, has a gorgeous design, and stands out from the crowd thanks to its five rear cameras. Its cameras were developed in partnership with optics pros Zeiss and L16 camera developer Light. Two of the sensors capture full-color photos, while the other three are monochrome sensors that aid with depth, contrast, and exposure. Combined, they can capture spectacular images, just not every time — learn more here. The Nokia 9 is made of glass and metal, supports wireless charging, and comes with an in-display fingerprint scanner. It also features an IP67 rating for protection against water and dust but does not have a headphone jack. The Motorola One Vision has a lot going for it. In addition to being an Android One device, which means it runs a stock version of Android, it also offers a classy design, great cameras, and solid performance. The display measures 6. The phone is available in Europe, India, and a few other regions, but it was not officially released in the US. You can get it from Amazon via the button below. The Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL sport the same These include Top Shot mode that takes multiple pictures of your subject and recommends the best one and Night Sightwhich brightens low-light scenes thanks to computational photography. The Pixel 3 has a 5. Both phones also come with Qi wireless charging support and front-facing speakers, but no headphone jack. Best of all, Google has guaranteed updates for these phones until Octobereven though they were released in November The most impressive thing about them is that they offer almost the same camera experience as the regular Pixel 3. You can also expect to get fast updates direct from Google until May There are a few omissions, though, which are expected due to the price tags of the phones. The branding of this phone is confusing: The Nokia 8.
