If all else fails, is there another motherboard you can flash the card on? BoddyFeb 19, BoddyFeb 20, I'm new to all this. I'd appreciate some help with the steps. I have not seen much online with using an ISO image.

If you do encounter problems, you are solely responsible for those consequences. Intel will be able to overtake these figures once their chipsets support more than 2 devices at 6Gbps. BUT when it comes to writing data to the disks, the performance is terrible to say the least. Any writing will just frustrate the user no end in its subpar performance. The reason for this slow write performance is due to the fact that the card does not have battery or capacitor backed write cache. The short answer is that without the write cache, the controller gets bogged down by trying to write less sequential bits across the drives. From mediocre to the rather good, but this made no difference for RAID5 performance. The lack of memory available to the ROC seems to be the issue, as the ROC cannot process any data and store it, so I assume parity needs to be handled on the fly. You seem to have never heard of the problem with writes to RAID5 where, if a partial stripe is being written, the whole stripe must be read first, then parity computed, then written back. So how does anyone ever get to write an article as we all started as amateurs? What you say is true but just as amateur as me? Then the parity is calculated. I may just complete another part to this series, how many articles does it take to become a novice? It would just dumb down everything down the road. Added by Pilcheck - about 9 years ago. Updated about 4 years ago. The LSI i is supposedly supported under the new mfi driver. Unfortunately it has the same name as the driver in the stock [[FreeBSD]] kernel, and so can't be loaded on a system with a stock kernel. I can access the card and drives in [[FreeNAS]] 8. I have built the latest LSI driver source 3. Even though the above driver is working, the i is still functioning in Integrated RAID IR mode and is therefore not a basic disk controller even though the disks are configured for JBODin which case it isn't supported out of the box by [[FreeBSD]] and needs a more complicated driver. My advice would be to save yourself the trouble and get the or similar controller. I recently just set up FreeNAS 9. I just double checked and it seems my card is on a very old firmware. I will attempt to update it to see if this fixes the issue. After reconfiguring the drives, it doesn't seem like FreeNAS has direct access to these drives. These drives are configured in JBOD mode. The works fine when flashed as a megaraid now years ago the mfi driver didn't support that card, which is what this ticket is aboutit's also very popular to flash them with HBA firmware, which you can do at your own risk, but is a better choice for FreeNAS.
