From its introduction, agile handling, amazing versatility and a strong, supremely reliable engine made the cc air-cooled twin America's street bike for all reasons. Drawn with clean, taut lines that marked a new visual direction for Honda, this successor to the esteemed CL77 Super Hawk was designed to suit American riders, and it did. Honda dealers sold more than a quarter-million CBs over the model's five-year run — 67, of those in alone. Nearly 20 years of engine-design experience paved the way for that success. By the end of the 's, Honda had produced more than 10 million four-stroke motorcycle engines and earned 18 GP Manufacturer's Championships and 16 rider's titles with race wins. No one knew more about the art and science of four-stroke horsepower. As a major evolutionary step from the cc Super Hawk twin, there was plenty of original thinking behind the CB engine's conventional exterior. The rubber-mounted 32mm constant-velocity carburetors — big news at the time — sent fuel and air through intake ports that were hourglass-shaped to produce a broad, steady flow of power. Using proven Honda engine architecture, the single overhead camshaft engine was a marvel of civility from idle to redline. It asked for little fuel, oil or maintenance in exchange for the excitement it delivered on cue. Wound beyond rpm, the packed a satisfying punch, delivering its 36 horsepower at 10, rpm — a wild number in No worries. Honda ingenuity, expressed in progressively wound dual-coil valve springs, helped keep everything spinning smoothly. The chassis around that engine defined a motorcycle as adept in rush hour traffic as it was on a meandering backroad. Unlike many of its peers, the was comfortable, quick and agile enough to entertain experts without intimidating novice riders. After pitting the Super Sport against its cc competition, Cycle magazine may have said it best: "The Honda is tight, neat, thorough and it will feel fresher longer than the other bikes in the category. Extensively Documented Frame Up RestorationBike is available to be seen 6 days a week and is located in Westhampton Beach This '73 CBF is fresh out of a full engine-out cosmetic and mechanical restoration from the frame up. The work was done by a detail oriented ski-lift inspector a good quality for that job and Japanese motorcycle enthusiast who restores several bikes per year. He documented all of his work in detail in a 4 page document see below. He used quality parts only. It starts easily by electric or kicker, idles nicely, shifts well. Compression warm is, and psi. The frame, swingarm, triples, front hub, caliper body and all brackets were sanded and sprayed with 3 coats of matte black enamel. Every nut and bolt was either polished or replaced. Critical fasteners axle clamp bolts, triple clamping bolts, shock bolts, swingarm axle nut, motor mounts, etc were Loctite'd and torqued. All aluminum has been polished for a soft luster not show polish. This included the rear hub, brake panel, brake stay, fork lowers, engine covers, carb bodies, caliper mount. There was a concern about the blasting media getting into the engine itself. The tank is very nice inside and out, with original paint and only a few minor imperfections. It has a bright luster. Side covers are solid with no cracks, but paint is original has some patina. The overall look of the bike is not over-restored or show quality. Instead it keeps its original character by using its original tank and sidecovers. During restoration the carburetor jetting was left near-stock and the decision was made not to use pod filters.

The headlight ears and headlight bucket are in nice condition, the headlight bucket does have some fading. The original paint is in good condition. Inside of the gas tank has some rust see pictures. Hey everyone, I just bought a CBF and I had a question, the carbs have fuel lines coming out of the bottom and going down under the frame. When I start the engine, they leak out gas. Does anyone know why this would be done that way? I have an ambitious 72 cb project for sale. Engine turns over, tank is decent inside but terrible outside. Complete bike minus fork lower covers and has extended fork tubes installed. Comes with a useable set of mufflers and a 71 frame with Ontario ownership. Has a key aswell. Located in Niagara Falls Ontario Canada. I need to do things in logical bite-sized pieces with plently of You-tube support. But there must be a rational order of operations to diagnose and service an old bike.
